Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy Hosts 2nd Annual Budget Town Hall Series
Fort Bend County residents voiced their priorities for the 2026 fiscal year budget at our 2nd Annual Participatory Budget Town Hall Series hosted by County Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy’s Office on April 24, 2025 and May 3, 2025. The comments from these meetings, along with over 100 surveys completed online and in person over the last three weeks, will be used to guide Commissioner McCoy in prioritizing investments for the county budget.
In the online survey, attendees were given $100 to allocate however they wanted across five key categories; law enforcement and probation, community resources, court system support, health, and infrastructure. After they submitted their answers, they were shown how the county actually budgeted that $100 for the 2025 fiscal year.
In-person attendees were separated into two groups, each with $100 (represented by wooden tokens) distributed among every group member. Members received tokens to spend on the five key categories again and took time to tell their group why they made the decisions they did. Members were allowed to change their allocations after they heard the reasoning of the peers.
Forty-one attendees from across Fort Bend County attended in person, and online as the meetings were livestreamed from the office’s Facebook account. This year we were also joined by representatives from the Fort Bend County Budget Office.
Fort Bend County residents can continue to submit survey responses online until May 31, 2025.
