Honorable Derek Obialo, Associate Judge
Judge Derek U. Obialo graduated from the Abia State University (Nigeria) with LLB (Bachelor of Laws) in 1990, the Nigeria Law School (Victoria Island, Nigeria) with Barrister-at-Law in 1991, Houston Christian University (formerly HBU) with MBA in 2003, and University of Miami (Florida) with Juris Doctor in 2007. Prior to law school in Miami, Judge Obialo worked in construction claims consulting. Before assuming office as the Associate Judge of the 240th District Court in January 2025, he maintained a successful legal practice for 17 years primarily in the areas of construction law and business litigation. Judge Obialo is a longtime member of the College of the State Bar, holds several awards from the community and is passionate about public service and giving back to the community.
